Adels Grove Media Statement July 9

July 9, 2019
Adels Grove Caravan and Camping Park can confirm a fire destroyed a building and some nearby water tanks within the 82-acre holiday park last night. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there are no injuries reported. The building impacted houses the main reception, restaurant, bar, a small shop and kitchen. Adels Grove has 61 accommodation rooms and glamping tents plus 235 camp and caravan sites. Management believe the temporary loss of services will not impact the vast majority visitors who are self-sufficient campers and/or caravanners. The park was not evacuated, in fact many campers remain in the park opting to continue their holiday. The Lawn Hill Gorge boat tours are running and the canoe hire is open for business. Adels Grove is working with the authorities to ascertain the cause of the fire. Regular updates will be posted on the Adels Grove Facebook page - @adelsgrove Any travellers or guests wanting further information or assistance can call 0474 522 146. MEDIA RELEASE – Queensland’s Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park stars in Dundee movie

February 4, 2018
Queensland's Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park stars in Dundee movie The Queensland Outback is set to go global with Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park forming the backdrop to Tourism Australia's new advertising campaign, Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home. More than 110 million people across the world watched the advertisement screened during the Super Bowl national football championships today and millions more have watched the campaign evolve on social media over the past few weeks. Staff at Adels Grove Camping Park adjacent to Boodjamulla National Park have been sworn to secrecy since November last year when Australian actor Chris Hemsworth and American actor Danny McBride were flown to the remote Far North Queensland property to film their scenes. "We had more than 90 film crew fly in and stay and both Chris and Danny stayed in one of our cabins," said Adels Grove owner Gary Murray. "They absolutely loved Boodjamulla National Park and were taken back by the natural beauty. "Even a typical Aussie bloke like Chris was surprised by what he found in his own Australian backyard." Mr Murray worked on location during the shoot and drove Chris Hemsworth to and from the set. "The last Dundee movies were set in the Northern Territory so when we were approached to host the shoot here, we were proud, surprised and excited," he said. "The Territory's not Outback. This is Outback." Located 250 kilometres north west of Mount lsa, Adels Grove is 10km from the spectacular Lawn Hill Gorge in Boodjamulla National Park and 50km from the world heritage-listed Riversleigh fossil fields. "The secret of Lawn Hill Gorge is well and truly out now — we are already getting an influx of people wanting to visit," Mr Murray said. Record-breaking social media audiences in the tens of millions have been engaging with the Crocodile Dundee-inspired campaign, according to digital experts. "Dundee and Lawn Hill are beating brands such as Pepsi and Budweiser on social media — you can't buy that kind of exposure for Queensland tourism," Mr Murray said. "We're hoping the ad goes so well that the original Dundee — Paul Hogan — can't resist the temptation to make another Dundee movie and shoots it here."
The dream team of Australian actors that feature in the advertising campaign include Liam Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Ruby Rose, Isla Fisher and Jessica Mauboy. A big shout out this morning to a few of the organisations who have been assisting our amazing staff to get everything back in tip-top shape after recent events...

The wonderful team from Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia who are out doing a special clinic kindly brought along a new comprehensive medical chest, medical supplies and a defibrillator to replace those that were lost in the fire.

BCF Mount Isa who donated a fantastic esky to help keep supplies nicely chilled.

And the caring ladies from the Gregory CWA who brought our staff some delicious home-made smoko and magazines.

While we work on new plans for our reception and restaurant space we remind everyone that provided you are self-sufficient with food and drink supplies we are business as usual (Note- washing machines currently not available)

For bookings PLEASE CALL on 0747485502

A BIG THANK YOU goes out to everyone who has reached out to us on social media, in messages, phone calls, voice messages, emails and alike since the loss of our main building to fire early yesterday.

In true Outback spirit we are making best of what could have been a worse situation and our wonderful staff are working extra hard to ensure our current and future guests are well accommodated!

It's great to see so many happy smiling faces in and around the camp sites still and all the messages of stays to come... we really appreciate your support and help to spread the word that we are OPEN (even if reception is currently some camp chairs and fold out tables 😁)

Please ensure if visiting you are as self sufficient as possible until otherwise advised with guest inquiries to 0474522146 until phone lines are re-established

A special thank you to New Century emergency team, Queensland Parks and Burketown ambulance who all came to back up the Doomadgee rural fire and Cloncurry fire units that arrived quickly. Also thank you to the trained fire couple staying at the camp.
